Question, additional ground to engine

I know it's a subject beat to death but I have read recently that more grounding than just frame to battery is a good thing. In the article it didn't seem to talk about whether a ground strap or cable is a good Idea from the engine to the frame? Rational being it's gets a good ground closer to the starter motor?
Any thoughts?

Re: Question, additional ground to engine

Tony, there should be a ground strap from the passenger side head to the dash. The dash is the primary ground point from the battery. Further grounding to the frame is not a bad idea, but not required for anything but the lighting system.

Re: Question, additional ground to engine

For the BEST operation of electrical components and systems in these old cars, these three factors concerning GROUNDING always apply.

1. You can never have TOO MANY grounds.

2. Your ground wires can never be TOO BIG.

3. Your ground connections can never be TOO CLEAN (or TOO TIGHT).

I always run a extra ground wire from the battery to the transmission. It makes a world of difference.

Great information V8COOPMAN! Thank you. I put this in my memory bank, which is a file I keep, only for this type of information.

Re: Question, additional ground to engine

My 46 and 48 Lincolns have a ground cable that goes from the + post to the battery box to the engine. My 39 pickup has a cable from the + post to the firewall and a second cable from the firewall to the engine. Apparently Henry knew about grounding his electrical systems and probably had similar grounds on other cars. It seems that some owners have a "better " way to do things and then run into trouble. On new restorations often ground bases get painted over and a good ground is lost.

A good ground, or should I say, several good grounds are your friends.
