Re: My Biggest Fear Ha ha....I'm leaving instruction fo a mate of mine to sell my stuff after Ive gone....he is so tight you wouldn't believe it...he totes the same bits every year to the swap meets and will not drop one penny....I'm sure he' ll get the best price possible for my old FoMoCo stuff.

Very true indeed although that is much better than having it all go in the waste bin. That has happened before several times. You can't believe how fast club members head for the alley and dig through the dumpsters for what ever did not get dumped the week before. |

Re: My Biggest Fear Off topic, but in the same vien, my Aunt always hated my Uncles hobby of coin collecting. He had a large very nice collection, and started me collecting coins also. When Uncle Bob died, my Aunt, a bitter hateful woman, refused to sell or give his collection to anyone, insisting on taking it to the bank for face value. Who knows what happened to what the bank wouldn't take.

Re: My Biggest Fear Quote:
Your Aunt's hatefulness, probably, cost her a lot of money. I was on the receiving end of something similar, many years ago. A part of my job was cashing checks for employees, in a large office building. One day, a lady brought in a large glass jar filled with Barbour coins, Indian head pennies, etc. to cash in for face value. I was able to keep them by replacing the value. MIKE :) (mikeburch) |
Re: My Biggest Fear If you mean you kept them by replacing them at the coin face value then shame on you.

Re: My Biggest Fear My wife hasn't the foggiest idea what my junk is worth, but my son does... Thank goodness.
My dad had a collection of siver dollars and other silver coins and in the early 80's he took them to the bank and got face value for them. I had no idea he would ever do that. I can just see the cashier smiling... |
Re: My Biggest Fear I'll be more than happy to give someone "face value" for their old coins anyday. You've heard of "buyer beware"? Then it should also be "seller beware"' don't you think. All kidding aside, It takes a low person to not do the right thing.

Re: My Biggest Fear All my friends tell me they are coming to the yard sale she will have !
|
Re: My Biggest Fear My bank branch mngr. told me that they dont look thru all the coins but do pay attn. when someone brings in a silver dollar or such and give them a warning about possible higher value. what some of them do look for are "star" notes which are collectible, whereas most regular notes are not.

Re: My Biggest Fear As a kid, I was a cashier in a fast food restaurant, a predecessor to McDonalds. You'd be surprised how many rare coins come in trade for hamburgers. Kids having access to Dad's collection is just begging your kids to steal from you.

Wish I had stayed single in WV dusty |
Re: My Biggest Fear Every night I finish in the garage, I lock that door with a very rare and expensive Krupp Steel Works diamond-hard padlock. The key goes in a box in a hole way out back. Only my son knows there's a hiding place for the key somewhere but he doesn't know where. A fake non-functional key gets hung on the kitchen key-board just to keep my wife from smelling a rat (she hates the garage almost as much as the car, so never goes out there). When I die, my youngest nephew has instructions to give to my son which will put him in touch with an attorney who has the key to a safe-deposit-box. Therein lies a map to find the hiding hole out back. Inside the hole is a a box... Inside the box is a key... The key opens the very special lock... The lock opens the garage door... and inside, he will find my immaculately restored... Shit, I forgot the other door!

Re: My Biggest Fear Quote:
right to work side deals so you can benefit / it's like working at a scrap yd. and some old flathead parts come in would it be ok for you to pull the guy off the side and offer more then the scrap yd. owner just offered. You would be taking $$ out of his pockets,or should you go to your boss and let him know that you wanted the parts & see how much he wanted. YOU MAY BE SURPRISED  |
Re: My Biggest Fear Quote:
And about changing out coins from a cash register? To whom should any additional money go? The face value in the cash box being correct, the thief who paid for hamburgers with them deserves no further profit, so it's the sharp eye of the clerk who deserves the good fortune. No shame anywhere in sight. |
Re: My Biggest Fear When I was a kid and delivered papers, I would collect the occasional silver dollar,, Saved them up and bought a new bike with them ..... $38.00!!! Wonder on coin value or even silver value.. how much did I pay for that bike.. Ouch.
