1949 Meteor Hey all I am new to this forum due to the fact I have a 1949 meteor ( Canadian Ford) This car has 23,000 miles on it and is in great shape except the fact that the main bearing is cracked to the point of no return. I am now looking for a new block. I removed the engine and tore it down only to fine it had aluminum heads and intake. The intake is no big woop but the heads are strange. I have discussed this with some old mechanics and they say no way, ford did not make aluminum heads . You can get aftermarket offenhouser etc heads. This engine has aluminum heads definately . Can anyone shed any light on this the head are stamped "made in canada"

Re: 1949 Meteor '49 Meteors had aluminum heads marked C8BA and changed to iron 8BA heads in 1950, and Ford Canada built '49 Monarchs and at least some '49 Canadian Mercs had C8CM aluminum heads. They were about a point higher CR than the iron heads. ..B.

Re: 1949 Meteor Great, so as I see it and Ford Canada can not tell me this I believe that the aluminum head only came out in 1949. The Merc may have had them longer do not know. I also understand the standard "flat Head" had 101 hp but the aluminum head had slightly domed pistons and had 147 hp . It is scary when you guys know more about late 40 fords than Ford Canada

Re: 1949 Meteor 2 Attachment(s)
Pictured, C8BA and C8CM (Canadian ONLY) factory heads. 1949 was NOT the first year for Canadian, aluminum heads. DD
