Reproduction RADIATORS Just put a 28-29 NEW reproduction radiator on a customers car, bottom outlet hits the fan belt. Its a good HALF INCH inboard of the original, anyone else have this problem? Bob

Re: Reproduction RADIATORS where did you get it?

Re: Reproduction RADIATORS Rather not say untill the boss and customer talk it over. Bob

Re: Reproduction RADIATORS The bottom outlet should point slightly down and out, not straight back like many repros do.

Re: Reproduction RADIATORS I just can't believe they made this thing without some type of jug to put the bottom outlet were it belongs. Bob

Re: Reproduction RADIATORS I would immeditaltly contact the person you got it from and send it back without even trying to fix it on your own.
Please let us know who you got it from so some of us won't have to go through the same problem in the future. Pluck |
Re: Reproduction RADIATORS 2 Attachment(s)
Here are a couple pictures showing the original radiator and water pipe. Notice how the outlet angles out and down. The first picture was someone's 1928 or 1929 at the Gilmore museum. The second picture shows my 28 radiator upside down so I could backflush it. You need a lot of water volumn for a good backflush, and the sump pump works well for the job. Notice that this water pipe is used for ALL 1928-9 radiators due to the angle of the bottom outlet pipe. This IS NOT a powerhouse only pipe.

Re: Reproduction RADIATORS I'll bet that they sweated the lower outlet on upside down.
Is that what it would look like on Tom's photo, only backwards? |
Re: Reproduction RADIATORS I had a similar problem on a 1930 Rad. The lower mounting brkt. was 1/2" to wide and the fan blade was into the new rad. I had to cut and shape the rad to get it to fit. Only about 6 hours work at $60.00/hr. A real bargain replacement and I know Aftermarket means almost fits. P.S. the new rad was about 1/2 the weight of the original unless the old one was full of crude. I wanted to recore it, customer didn't.

Re: Reproduction RADIATORS I PUT ONE ON A 29 4 DR. CAME FROM RON CLOAT IN PEORIA IL. WORKED OUT GREAT BUT HE SOLD OUT AND I DON't KNOW WHO BOUGHT HIM OUT. I USED TO HAVE NEW COAR PUT ON OLD TANKS THAT WORKED GOOD ALSO.
