Is this a period aftermarket accessory air filter? 1 Attachment(s)
I found this while going through some parts for my spring swap meet pile. This came in a box of parts when I bought my '28 Tudor. If I remember correctly the guy told me it was a period aftermarket accessory air filter for a Model A. What do you guys think? Has anyone ever seen one like it before? It looks to be made out of brass. The filter element appears to be some kind of corrugated brass that has been wound tightly around itself making almost like a mesh screen. Don't know how effective it is but it sure looks cool!

Re: Is this a period aftermarket accessory air filter? does it fit on the zenith carb? early motorcycle air filters were 2 screens that you put some cotton wading between but those screwed on the mouth.

Re: Is this a period aftermarket accessory air filter? jersey,
On page 72 of the book, Those Wonderful Unauthorized Accessories for Model A Ford. It shows a similar air filter to the one you have. The Michiana Products Co. called their device the Bak-Draft Air Filter and Intake silencer: "...the oily film on the fine, screen mesh filtering element..." "The baffle arrangement smooths out the pulsations of the motor and muffles carburetor noises." Another one of the hundreds of accessory gemmicks offered by aftermarket companies for the Model-A. During the late 20's and early 30's.:) Bob-A:D |
