Budd Body Model A Ford in 1928...

Which Model A Ford body style did the Budd Corporation produce for Ford in 1928?

Thanks.

Pluck

They also did the 28-29 square cab truck, and the 1930 roadster and phaeton sheet metal. I have about 100 Budd archive photos of a lot of the parts and bodies they made for Ford.

Thank you Vince.

Did they also do the Open Cab or was that one of Ford's production?

Thank you.

The car you pictured was built in June 1929 and was called the G2 Fordor Sedan. I have several archive photos of it. It is the only Budd I have seen that was built on a non-standard Ford A chassis. It is however, the only Budd prototype that I know of that still exists.

I would like to find the Budd prototype May 1930 straight windshield styled Tudor sedan, or the September 1930 slant windshield Tudor sedan! I know they existed. The pics are cool! Apparently Ford was not impressed enough to adopt Budd's proposals.

Edit: I just looked at your link, and it matches my info, and in fact they show a couple of the same archive photos I have.

Are you saying that there were pics of that car in the Ford records? I thought the story was pure BS since it clearly was intentionally designed to showcase Budd's pending patent (1,825,323). It was a low slung design that would NOT work with ford's chassis. They couldn't possibly believe Ford would redesign the entire chassis and all their other models just to follow Budd's lead! If I recall correctly, the original photos were taken AT Budd's facility.

Vince, that photo of a slant Tudor is amazing.
Will you put up any other Budd photos on your site, like the stretched 1931 Fordor already there?
I have a large B stamp on the metal subframe of my '29 Tudor [ where the body # is stamped] which I thought may have been a Budd mark.

Thanks Vince, that is NEAT stuff!!! You can definitely see in both examples where they were following what were current ford features but definitely taking it up a notch. Tudors have never excited me much but that one makes me think twice!

Stunning comes to mind! I'll take the Tudor...

The Fordor is interesting,....windshield slides, cowl vent and the hub cap, which
looks like the first type used.

What craftsmanship!

I own a 1925 Budd-bodied car, not Ford. The workmanship is very top notch. Best thing about it is NO WOOD. All steel welded body. Henry must have been chasing the idea of an all steel body for some time according to the photo's posted, since the '31 slants were virtually all steel.

A question if I might.
To stamp the pieces would require dies, and dies are expensive, unless you can amortize them over a long production run, so the question is, did Budd really make the dies on speculation? Or were they made for another customer and used as a promo to Ford?

Thanks for posting the link Ron. It was very interesting, I had no idea Budd was such a force in early autos. Phil

So did Budd build the body for my 130-a Delivery.? There is a lot of wood in them. Phil

Might as well ask...

Do you have any of these production pics of the Steeltop pickup?

Just occasionally, amazing era photos or new information appears on FB.
These Budd photos are one of them.
Thanks to Vince & to Steve for asking the question.
