That's hilarious! Just think of the poor guy who legitimately may want to buy something that lives in one of those countries. Wouldn't stand a snowballs chance in hell of making an over seas transaction. lol I've been getting calls at home lately from the "East" wanting to fix my internet problems. Just log on and enter "this" so we can clean up (take control of) your computer so we can fix the problem. Wonder how many fall for that one?

Having been in Malaysia, I seriously doubt that the buyer would be able to import it, much less get the govt papers on it.. They are very restrictive on what vehicles go into the country.

Only US vehicles I have ever seen there are a handful of Harleys

1st Red Flag-- Malaysia.. Too restrictive to be able to import I'd think
2nd Red Flag -- Seriously, they will send you a credit card? (or did I misread?)

I usually enjoy the scammer responses.. they are dodgy, but kind of humorous :)

Funny thing happened to me last week.

Sold a car for 12.5 K.

I only accept cash these days....or bank transfer and wait until I see it in my account before anything goes....will not even take a bank cheque anymore.

Took cash to bank, and they had trouble counting it both by hand and machine and teller was looking at notes strangely.

The queue behind was waiting impatiently as she tried and retried .

I thought , what the hell!! must be counterfeit.

Lucky it was just sticky notes she said and finally got it counted.

Getting hard to trust anything these days.

A bunch of people fall for it. My brother did. They created quite a mess on his computer. Luckily, using software I setup for him, he had made an image of his hard drive a week or two before that phone scammer infected his computer with a virus. They basically hold you ransom. Pay them to remove the virus or live with a very slow computer that crashes a lot. I restored his hard drive from the image and he only lost 2 weeks of e-mails, but nothing really important.

Actually, first red flag is they do not mention what they are buying or only regurgitate the ad heading…….

Now Pluck, not all these guys are scammers. Heck I just found out I am descended from Nigerian royalty and getting a huge inheritance! (And I thought I was descended from the Dutch!) The nice man made it convenient for me, all I had to do was send him my bank account and my online password so he could transfer the money into my account. What nice people!

There are still trustworthy folks around.
I did some work for a farmer last week, he gave me his c/card to get the parts from in town,
They are from a diferent time.
They are also very nice folks,gave me 5 flatheads, two A engines and four a gearboxes.

I would want cash or a wire transfer.

The last sale I had was for a 1930 Roadster I had listed on Craig’s list in the Seattle Tacoma area last summer in June. The buyer was in New York and he was going to ship the car to France. I put everything on high alert. I quizzed him on what business he was in and asked for a list of the last 10 cars he purchased for export. I called about 4 buyers on the list and found this guy was not a scammer. He would wire transfer a deposit of $1000 in your account within 24 hours and the rest within 10 days. He would arrange for a transporter to pick up the car only after full payment was received.

I provided him with the routing numbers for my bank savings, only after a long discussion with my credit union that only deposits could be made and NO withdrawals. I had the $1000 deposit within 24 hours and the remainder within 10 days. On the specified date a transporter showed up and the car went to California for transshipment to New York, and then on to France.

A couple of years ago my brother was selling a couple of items on Craigslist. A scammer emailed him wanting to buy them and assured him that he would take care of the shipping logistics and costs.... my brother was selling burial plots.

I have fun with them once in awhile but they are annoying, what's the lowest price you will go, they never know what your selling. The best response if in doubt is to tell them to call you, most will not but I did have one call me though with a thick (scammer accent) that knew nothing about cars. I hope Craigslist gets this cleared up shortly because any scammer with 3/4 of a brain could do a lot of damage.
