Where to get black touch up paint?
 

There has been a lot of discussion about how to paint a Model A but does one know where to get black touch up paint? I own a 1930 Town Sedan and on a tour a fellow club member bumped my front fender and took some paint off. No need to repaint the whole fender, just touch it up a bit. I assume most A's fenders are painted semi-gloss black. Is this the case? Does anyone know where to purchase the proper color black touch up paint? Thanks. JIM

Jim, there is probably more varieties of a Black shade than any other color. My suggestion is to take the vehicle to a reputable paint jobber who has the capability to match what you presently have into a ½-pint quantity. He can also give you a paint formula that you can use at a later date.

Your best bet is to take it someplace that can scan the color and get a close match. The paint would have been gloss black but depending on the age may have faded some and may now looks like semi-gloss.

Black nail polish, do not use testors as it dries a dark gray.

I touch up my black fenders with Dupli-Color NG CC 427 purchased at Auto Zone . Works great.

As Brent said there very many shades of black. After you go to Auto Zone and touch up your paint. Then check it after it's dried in the sun light. If it suits your needs fine, if not then do as Brent said.

Brush touching black is easy, and you can make it almost disappear, as long as there isn't major damage other than a scratch. Get some black, probably semi gloss, or gloss. Then start slowly building it up. Add one coat then wait about 15 minutes and maybe go back and add another coat with your brush. Then let it dry. At this point you'll probably need to scuff with 2000 grit wet, and knock down the edges. Go back and add one last coat. Let it dry. Then wet sand with 2000 again, and them buff and polish the area. The scratch will almost disappear. With black, you'll see a little ring around where the scratch use to be that you won't be able to make go away but it's better than the scratch. My boss bought a Tudor a couple months ago, and it had a nasty scratch on the front fender. One that would make you want to repaint it. This is what we did to it, and it disappeared for the most part. Definetly looked better than before

Follow Brent's suggestions here! There are a lot of variables, single stage, two stage, lacquer, enamel, urethane, is it the "blue" black or the "brown" black?

That is, unless you want it to look like a 20/20 job. Done in under 20 minutes for less than $20.

A lot of good suggestions above. But it depends on what you want and how good of job you want to have on your car. So you decide.
