'36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! Here is the URL:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1936-...orcev4exp=true The lister knows little about it, but it looks to me to have been a phaeton with the back part of a trunk body car grafted on rather than a four door made into a phaeton, which would entail a lot of bodywork. Interesting what people will do . . . . . . Anyone ever seen anything like this one? |
Re: '36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! Yep,seen one in Calif back in the '70s.It was and maybe still is black w/SBC in it.

Re: '36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! There is a 35 phaeton in australia that has been pieced together with a 35 flat back fordor body, and the top cut off at the correct heght. Only way to tell is the length is different, because rear sedan doors are different in length to rear phaeton doors, (longer door, shorter tub section).
Strangely enough, the boot doesn't look so bad on the 36 in the ebay link. |
Re: '36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! dan you have to be bloody kidding old boy, dosnt look bad what bull shit ! you will get us aussies a bad name
|
Re: '36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! Well as another "AUSSIE" I think it looks kinda neat !! Just because its very different and technically incorrect don't make it bad. Ill have it if nobody wants it !!

Re: '36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! Aw come on Scott it's not too bad. I wouldn't build one myself like that, but Henry did make a 36 convertible sedan with a boot.
|
Re: '36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! Ford made a 36 Phaeton and a 36 Convertable Touring Sedan and a Convertable Sedan. The Convertable Touring Sedan had a trunk and a inside spare. the one on ebay looks like a mixed up model.

Re: '36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! From the back it actually looks quite good, I'm not so keen on the view from the side though. I could imagine Ford in England or Europe producing a car with this feature.

Re: '36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! Just seen this one on CL as well... It is local to me if anyone is seriously interested in it, I could check it out.

Re: '36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! In mid year '35 Ford introduced a "trunk back" in both the Phaeton and Convertible Sedan body styles.

The '36 1/2 Phaeton/Convertible Sedan trunks were the first to carry the spare tire in the trunk on a Ford automobile. |
Re: '36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! Fordors, you are correct, I meant to type '36... Another fat finger screw up. :o
|
Re: '36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! Only the late '36 convertible sedan had the trunk. The phaeton remained trunk-less until the '37 models and all '36 phaeton have rear-mounted spare tires. The car in question is a clever post-production marriage of a touring sedan body and that of a phaeton.

Re: '36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! This car was a creation of a gentleman named Ray Kruse here in St. Louis. I saw it years ago in his converted Theatre/showroom. I don't recall it being quite as good as the photos indicate.

|
Re: '36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! Scott the made up phaeton I was talking about in post #3 was also made up by Peter Jakowen . The car in question is now in Victoria (the cowl was a roadster ute I think, phaeton doors and b pillars and flatback sedan tub. New owner is going to restore it like it is.

Re: '36 Phaeton on e***, has a trunk! dan ive seen a 35 tub in Victoria that used a flatback sedan tub looked good ,it was at a ballarat swap ,don't know who built it but it could be the one you know off ,peter jackowen pieced together a few open fords (good on him) if they are pieced together then its another car that exists so we all benefit ,I sold him some open 35 stuff I had left over from making one my self wish I still had the one I pieced together now,no bullshit boot though, the US blokes haven't seen how bad aussie boot (trunk) looks compaired to US ones
