Question
 

How does one tell the difference between the Briggs 4 door and the Murray 4 door sedan. Mine has the third window on the side.

I have had the car for many yrs, recently retired, have the wants to get it up and running.

The Murray fordors and town sedans had arched upper door reveals and narrorer quarter windows. the early murray 28-29 bodies had a murray nametag on the right lower cowl side, above the lower bead. The slant window 31 models all had the arched window reveals but had the larger quarter windows like the Briggs bodies.

Look at the top of the side windows. When I was in the Navy, my commanding officer was Commander Briggs. Very straight laced, no-nonsense kind of man. A friend of mine had a cat named Murray. Murray was really soft and round. That's how I remember which is which.

When Ford built the 31 Slant Window he had Murray and Briggs build the bodies the same so parts were interchangeable. So all the Slant Window bodies had arched upper door revels.

There are some telltale differences such as Briggs used d-nuts on the fire wall and Murray used caged nuts on the firewall. Also Brigg had a manufactures mark the Briggs “Bug” on the RF cowl.

An easy i.d. between Briggs & Murray 3W Fordors [ the '29-mid '31] are the interior window frames. Briggs are squared at the top ; Murray are rounded at the top.
Murray did not supply Ford in 1928, the 1929 3W fordor & T.S. was their first for Ford.
Briggs produced the 1928 fordors plus the later fordors throughout production
