1954 Mercury Trunk

I need help opening the trunk on my '54 2 door Monterey. The unlock linkage must have slipped off the lock. The lid will only lift about a half inch. I prefer not to go thru the back seat. Should I drill out the key lock or drill thru the Mercury emblem? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Joe

Why would you want to drill out something on your car? There is no guarantee that it will solve your problem. Pull out the back seat shine a light inside to see what it takes to unbolt the latch. If you can't fit inside , hook up a bunch of extensions on the end of a socket and remove the bolts from inside and the trunk will open. I've done this countless times over the last 40-50 years. Matter of fact I had to do it this summer on a 57 Ford.
These things were made to come a part without drilling and destroying something.

Remove the back seat. Crawl into the trunk space and you will find that the little "keeper" that holds the trunk release link to the lock cylinder cam has popped off. From inside, pull on that link to release the trunk lid. Now you can get yourself a new keeper and re-install the link on the lock cam.

I agree about removing back seat. After that you can figure some way to open it. Bill

I've decided to go with a solenoid actuator to open the trunk. Does anyone have a recomended 12 volt pusher type to use. Thanks Joe
