Shock absorbers - 1946 Coupe
 

How do the original shock absorbers work and do they go bad? What's inside them? Maintenance?

The attached will give the info you are asking about. Yes, they can "go bad". If they are not leaking at the pivot shaft seal, and there is good resistance in the arm movement with the shock link disconnected, that could be considered as "good".
