Surplus airplane parts for a 36+ Ford You airplane guys will enjoy! Just bought some dome lamp assemblies from a vintage aircraft parts dealer. They were painted Army green and had plastic lens, but underneath the paint was the original chrome plating (carb cleaner removed paint, chrome well preserved too). Had 12-16V bulbs. Other than these mods, they were exactly like the 1936 coupe and the dome lamps that Henry used in wagons (have the lateral type on/off switch on the base). Here is what the tags said--Overhaul Department, Aircraft Registration Number, Part, Passed. Where it gets interesting is the Reg # is written as 8706 on one and 8057 on another tag, the part says Domelight 681377C, and it Passed Feb 27 1944. Looks like a car part # to me. These were apparently used and salvaged? in the middle of the war? What I'm really curious to know is What Model Aircraft had that registration #? Something from Willow Run? I've researched Tail #s or 'N' #s as there sometimes called, but without year of procurement suffix I can't pinpoint. Any ideas?? Thanks, RPM

Re: Surplus airplane parts for a 36+ Ford I never followed up on this to verify the size, but when I was flying the 737 I was sitting on the fold down jumpseat in the cockpit to get home and I took note of the ashtray. It was round and pulled out just like the '36 sedan I had. After smoking in the cockpit got banned most of them disappeared.

Re: Surplus airplane parts for a 36+ Ford Most of the inside door handles and window cranks in a Stinson Detroiter was Model A Ford and used the same type interior. Marv

Here is an ashtray that was installed on a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. There was one at the Navigator Station, Flight Deck and Radio Room. Ford - built ashtrays were more likely found on Ford Built B-24 airplanes.

Re: Surplus airplane parts for a 36+ Ford Our `46 Aeronca Champ has a Model A Ford gas gauge. At least it sure looks like it...
