400jr
 

was just looking thru you tube and came across a vidio of vern tardel adjusting the lifters on a 400jr. he does .012 in, and .014 ex. i thought it was .018 and .018. thats what i set mine at. any major performance issues between the 2 settings?

The wider settings may help the low end performance.

Pete, doesn't that make them a bit noisier, too? Mine set at .012 and .014 are a little noisy when cold.

I saw the same video, & I think Vern set them at .014 & .014. I Emailed him & his response was, " that it quiets them down somewhat ". I reset mine to .014 & they are quieter. Setting the valves tighter usually moves shifts the power band higher, but I'm not noticing any difference.

Be sure and check it with a degree wheel …… the last two we checked were way off and got returned

I like the 400jr as a race cam for short tracks, but they;re hard on the valve train and require some hefty spring pressure. One reason I changed to the L-100, sounds good runs great and #50 lbs will get you 5K. But if I was racing, that's another story.
