If a battery 6 volt boils out ??

Would this be a voltage output problem with the alternator? and what is best way to test battery on car? thanks Josh

if water is being boiled out of the battery its usually a regulator problem, over charging the battery, just hook a multi meter up to the battery with the engine running at about 1200 rpm, the meter should show about 13 to no more than 14 volts

Hi Josh, if this is a 6 volt system, with a 6 volt alternator, I think 7.5 to 7.8 volts would be likely(not 13 or 14 volts) If the battery is weak it could cause overcharging. You can PM me if you need help fault tracing it

i had the exact problem happened using the NU REX High Voltage alt. the problem stemmed from not having enough water to being with and driving daily when it was 100 degrees out. Problem corrected by OPTIMA battery and new 7.35 v set point alternator and all is great now..

Don't fordet most 6 volt batteries are not maintenence free like modern 12 volt, they will need water once in a while, it's normal. Boiling out badly is not.

Using trickle chargers & maintainers too much will cause low water. Lots of batteries are ruined my too much charging. I "BLEW" 1/2 the top off my battery with a 2 amp trickle charger on too long!! I found out that the screw lid vents weren't open!! Tasted like crap when I tried to BLOW through them! PATOOIE!! Bill W.

On trickle charge I discovered the boil off issue before it got down too low. So instead of 24-7 trickle, I put it on a timer to switch on for 10 minutes a day.

End of problem.

Thank u guys yes it's 6volts. Optima sounds good to me ,Ned thanks for ur personal offer I appreciate very much. I get quite an education on this forum regarding electrical especially. I do have questions regarding use of relays to control. Lighting and will pursue when to use this again josh

The Optima battery works very well, either 12 or 6 volt. Because of the location the battery isn't maintained well on a Model A. The Optima eleminates the need for the maintance. I installed a little device called a battery bug from a company name Argus. But I understand they have gone out of business. It was only for 12 volt but sounded an alarm when the battery got low. Came in handy on our sedan.
