Is This Balsam Green?

Hi, I am looking for some input as to what color this would be on my firewall. I am going with the assumption that it is original paint? The car is a September 1929 Phaeton so the only factory color close would be the balsam green. When I have looked at examples on cars it is clearly a bright green like something for St. Patrick’s Day. The color may have changed some under the repaint but there seems to be quite a difference. Could it be Bonnie Gray in the darker area? Just a guess.

John-
Go inside the car and look up at the space between the firewall and the gas tank. Take a rag, dampened in a cleaner, and wipe a spot down to get to the original paint. Get a good light on it. Try to take a picture.

Jim From Georgia, I looked in those hard to get at places and still have found the same paint. It’s a darker green with maybe a hint of blue. If I scratch under it it’s just raw steel. This car has been in our family over 60 years but is tired mechanically and it looks. I am going to do a Year One restoration meaning bone stock but not show. Thought I would go with original color but could go with other factory color ( do like Andulusite Blue) So
No harm no foul. The Balsam Green to me appears to be very similar John Deere Green. My guess it could only be the following scenarios.
-Car was repainted early in its life
-is Balsam Green but has changed tint with age and being under repaint years ago.
- a special color for fleet sale, did ford do such a thing?

By your pictures, your car has been completely repainted in the green that is on it. The heads of the screws that mount the terminal box would not have been painted. they were originally raven finished. My guess is that it was painted the 1928 color Dawn Gray.

Gary, car was repainted in late 50’s in the lighter green shade prior to my Dad buying the car. Paint underneath does look like Dawn Gray. I looked up color on line, why ford named a greenish color gray is odd. Also close to Vagabond Green but not used on open cars in 1929. Benson, I took these photos with an LED work light. I can definitively see how the color can change with different type of lights and conditions. Jim, your pics of the Balsam Green Phaeton is a great example. Gentlemen Thank You for your inputs, John

Oh, the pic of the firewall paint I took a DA with a mild abrasive compound to see if it would change tint.
