Model maker needed

Interested in having a model made of my 1938 Ford woodie; have been unable to find any commercial kits. Thank you.

I have a friend who is a professional model-er, not sure you want to spend that kind of money for the time and effort he takes to build a model. He "Has" spent as much time on a model (if not more) than a "real" car!!!! I can pass along his information and "IF" he is not interested he might know someone who will. Here is one he made from a drawing he liked!!!! ALL scratch built!!! ALL the chrome is true chrome plating. he machined the rims, turbos, exhaust etc etc. The safari windows open and as you see have the open rods like originals!!! IS there ANY model available of a 38 OR 39 Standard of an body style????

He is incredibly talented. Here are a few car parts he made!!! They are "hens teeth" parts......a little side business of his!!!! The first is a 46 Caddy horn button OF which there are NONE (Left is his)!!!, the second is a choke knob for our 32 German Ford of which again none available!!

The modern 3D printer might be able to print one if s 3D scan could be scaled down.

There may have been models made in the past by Revell, AMT, or one of the other model companies. Sometimes out of production models show up on flea-pay. Finding one for any 1938 car may be difficult though since they generally only produced the more popular models.

A lot of the wood model makers in this day and age are from the pacific rim countries. I've seen a lot of airplane models come out of the Phillipines. They are like sculptors except they work in wood. The aircraft models are in the neighborhood of $100 each but I don't know what a custom job would cost.

I don't know of any commercially available 1938 Ford model kits in any scale.

It is a tough order.

This I would call a toy truck as opposed to a model. I built it 24 years ago in one day (the day before my son's second birthday). It was scaled an inch to the foot from a '32 truck I had at the time. This was quite crude and that was OK. I wanted it to look like some old guy's homespun Christmas present to his grandson. Back then, as today I was building cabinetry and furniture for the upper crust summerfolk market. I would not attempt something like that VW bus thing, but I marvel at the skill involved. If a hand built model of your woodie that shows some sign of being hand built is acceptable, maybe we should talk. It would be far more refined than my son's toy.I have all the work I could ever do already lined up, but the idea of building a model woodie has always intrigued me. Either way, no big deal, just a thought and not everyone's cup of tea.

Maybe you could do a little kit bashing and combine two or more kits to make one. You could use a little balsa wood for the back half.

Thank you for kit bashing idea; the distinctive ‘38 grill would be, as we say here in New England, a wicked pissah of a challenge !

Jacques, I returned your pm but it seems like it may not have sent. If not, I will use the email on your profile page. I lived on Mt Desert island in the late 70's for a few years while working at HR Hinckley yard in Manset! Thanks, GB

Re: Model maker needed

Does anyone know of an available model that would yield the correct stock wheels? Thinking at this point they are wide 5s? Also are the fenders the same as a '37?

Re: Model maker needed

Try Scale Auto Magazine. Have found 1941 cabover, 1937 sedan delivery, and 1927 roadster bodies in resin. These bodies are made to fit existing kits.
Look for parts suppliers. I think I remember seeing either 1939 standard or 1938 deluxe front end to go with 1939 coupe model. Also lots of talented builders read this magazine.

Re: Model maker needed

AMT produced a 1941 Ford woodie wagon plastic kit in 1/25 scale which looked very nice. You could find one on ebay I recon. Make it into a 38 using a car kit front. Regards, Kevin.
