Model A parts Suppliers. Do all the Model A parts suppliers get the same parts from a mother load some place or from various makers of the parts?
For instance does Bratton's, Snyder's, Bert's, Mikes Affordable, The Model A Medic, and so on get the same parts, then adjust the price to meet their own business model for their catalog? I know that Vintique makes some parts for resale to the vendors. There must be others out there too. Is there a quality difference between the quality of parts between the vendor's? Thank you in advance. |
Re: Model A parts Suppliers. There are some parts where there is only one supplier and all of the dealers have to go to that supplier for that part. For example the 5.5 head is only made by Snyder's. But there are other parts where there are 2,3,and sometimes more suppliers for the same part (an example of that would be gaskets, springs... And there can definitely be a difference in the quality of the parts from any of those suppliers.

Re: Model A parts Suppliers. One supplier told me several weeks ago that they all get parts from the same sources for 90+ % of parts they carry.
Brattons does seem to have some parts made just for them. |
Re: Model A parts Suppliers. There are several suppliers of sheet metal replacement parts to the retail vendors
Ranging from pretty good to worthless. There are very very few superb parts but are out there. If one is to buy certain panels they should post the description and let the forum participants chime in. Also ask the vendor! A few will shoot you straight. Another few don’t have a clue as to what works and what doesn’t. Sad but true |
Re: Model A parts Suppliers. One of the reasons I like Bratton’s is they are willing to make a value judgment in their catalog on what they sell. I also trust Snyder’s, though I find their catalog hard to navigate. But mostly I try to buy (what few parts I now need) locally from Tom at Model A Ford Works. He and his associate, Mark, really know their stuff and make sure what they sell is correct and up to snuff.

Re: Model A parts Suppliers. The guys in the local club here generally deal with Bert's in Denver. Calling the owner, Steve, will let you know the quality of the part. Some stuff he has but won't advertise since he's not happy with the quality. Very honest and stand up fellow who has earned our business here.

Re: Model A parts Suppliers. Looking for rebuild info for the original ignition switch on my 1930 A Roadster..
It failed in "OFF" with some low lever load connected...Battery dead!! Any one know where I can find the info.. A new owner of a "restored" A Roadster, from PEI,Canada Jerry Jodice |
Re: Model A parts Suppliers. AZ Model A Parts, Sammy Guthrie was working on parts that he was supplying to other vendors one day I was picking up parts there. So parts vendors do use the same sources for the same part. Sammy has both old and new parts.

I assume you have narrowed your electrical leak to the pop out switch. In that case, Dick may be able to talk you through a fix you could do on your own without shipping your pop put all the way from PEI To S. Dakota? Good luck! |

Re: Model A parts Suppliers. RedModelT...Here in Bend we have had smoke for days. We were near Lincoln City last week...what a mess! Home again in smoky Bend.

Re: Model A parts Suppliers. I highly respect and admire a Model A parts supplier that will advise me of the fit, form and function of a reproduction part. In this regard, I am spoiled by my local supplier, Bob Bader's Antique Ford Parts Center in Bohemia, NY. I also take my hat off to Bratton's, Synder's and Bert's. My expectation is that most parts suppliers will give you good advice regarding the parts they sell. There are situations where the only parts available are inadequate and need fitting to work.
