Steel head gaskets What do I put on a 21 stud steel head gasket with cast iron heads to get a good seal?? Copper coat, grease,or silver paint or nothing
I used copper coat on a composit gasket the other day,had a stuck valve, and removed head and gasket came apart,Joes had the steel for $20 !thoight I would try them,,, |
Re: Steel head gaskets Don, I have built countless flatheads and have applied copper-coat to each and every head gasket.
I would not consider anything else. It works - period. |
Re: Steel head gaskets Same here on v8s and 4cyl Ts

Re: Steel head gaskets I always just use a good grease on all gaskets. Never had a problem with seal and they are easy to remove. My 2¢. Tell me why I'm wrong.

Re: Steel head gaskets Coctacted fel pro tech line! Also ,,,guy said copper coat or there was another sealer I forgot,!,,

Re: Steel head gaskets Best gaskets also recommends copper coat. But with cast iron heads I prefer copper head gaskets as they are more malleable, and can sometimes be reused. Steel are fine also and probably less expensive.

Re: Steel head gaskets If everything is clean and FLAT it does not matter whether you use a sealant or what type sealant. I have used aluminum paint, copper coat, and nothing without problems when iron heads are installed.
Torque nuts in several even increments and DO NOT over-torque. Go through at least 3 hot-cold engine retorque cycles and drive forever. |
