Helpful shock absorber technical data.
 

Hello. I needed some shocks for my 32 sedan project. 5/8 eye top and bottom. I got a link to the Gabriel catalog from a helpful post on Fordbarn and got it into Excel via Word. I was then able to filter on eye type and sort on length.
Anyway I found it very useful and was able to look up and order a suitable pair from Rockauto. Obviously, once you have the application you can get any brand of shock available for that model, from any supplier you choose.
Here's a snap of the table. It might prove useful to someone. It might be useful for instance if you want some just a bit shorter or longer than the ones you have.

thanks for the concise info on shocks, working on a lowered 40 coupe and this should make the shock choice easy

Anyone know how much travel is required on a Stock model 48 phaeton front and back. Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks!! This is wonderful! Since you have this in a spread sheet, could you add a column for "mean length" being halfway between open and closed?

If you want to figure it out for your vehicle:

Determine your shock mount points, these are your measurement points.

Measure the distance between the upper and lower mounting point. This is the length of the shock in the normal ride position.

Jack the frame up on one side until the tire just clears the ground. Measure the distance between the upper and lower mounting point. This is the maximum shock extended length.

Now, with everything back to the normal ride position, jack up the axle on one tire until you get the shortest distance you can between the two mounting points. This measurement is the minimum shock length.

Now you should have the numbers you need to select a shock. The difference between the Maximum and Minimum lengths is the travel.
