Where are the best swap meets?

What swap meets are your favorite for pre-war stuff. I've been to Hershey and Carlyle, but what else rates high on your list?

Chickasha, Ok and Pate in Fort Worth both have passed for this year

In March, Chickasaw, Oklahoma. In April, Bakersfield, California. Both good prewar swap meets.

Your general location is not in your profile and you don't say where you want the swap meets to be located. I would vote for "The Big Three" in San Diego, California. It is usually held in February.

MANY swap meets just have a LOT of USELESS JUNK!!!
When those meets close, I "wonder" how much JUNK is abandoned there?

Re: Where are the best swap meets?

Bill- once at Hershey, I happened to be leaving late and got two decent Model A hoods from a barrel with garbage!
Hershey does not seem to be the place for Model A parts anymore. Most of the prolific Model A guys have either died or too old for the journey........I'm next I suppose.

I hear (not as well as I used to) that the West Coast and MAFCA/MARC meets are still the best if Model a specific looking.

Re: Where are the best swap meets?

For Model A parts, the best swap meets would be at the MARC and MACFA national meets. We sold over $8K of Model A parts at the MAFCA meet in Reno.

If your in the East, take in Charlotte, NC's AutoFair....I have heard that the spring AutoFair is bigger than Hershey? They are in April and Sept....

The biggest thing that AutoFair has going against what the original poster asked is that AutoFair is NOT a Pre-War swap meet. Quite honestly, that makes a huge difference as you must walk past all of the non-Model-A spaces to get to what you are looking for.

Bendigo and Ballarat and Croydon.

How come nobody has mentioned the Modesto A's swap meet in Turlock every January? The only swap meet I have seen larger than theirs is Hershey.

Seems that there are at least two great swaps per month in southern California. Since the Ditch won't share his location leaving me to expect his range is at least nation wide. Good that many of the other guys are able to include some good ones in their region. The only consistent disappointment out here seems to be the Pomona, George Cross. Chibbie cars and parts seem to dominate Pomona. Otherwise their deal to sell or show may be one of the best considering exposure. Things are constantly changing however, as generations have different tastes. Back to Pomona, I took three '40 coupes there to sell, parking at the entrance for max traffic. Watching the crowd parade by, most younger folks would rarely glance. By the questions, many didn't even know what they are. Maybe a '40 Willys? A real learning experience. Good Luck: Fred A

Here in my backyard in Virginia, we have the Floyd auto fair coming July 20th 21,22. I bring my Hershey load of stuff to sell. We have 300 vendor spots sold already. Alot like Charlotte type parts. Probley 10 people with Model A and T parts. If your 3-4 hours away it's the trip. Saturday is the big day.
Hemmings has a website with a calendar of events across the country. Chassing ss cars has 6 swap meets in va every year. The Car club council of va has a calendar of va events also.

When it started, the Pomona Swap Meet was billed as VW/Porsche and Model A parts but the junkers (rusty gold) and hot rods have taken over. The Air Cooled VW & Porsche parts are still mostly together near the entrance but the Model A stuff is all over the place.

Last time I was there I saw a number of Model A's for sale.

I agree that the Long Beach Model T Club Swap Meet this month is a good one. The San Fernando Swap Meet in the Fall and the Orange County Model T Club Swap Meet are also good.
