Carb problem

Looking for ideas on my Ford 91-99 carb. When I try to adjust the air mixture screws on the back base of the carb I have issues. One side the car will quit when I turn the screw in, The other side I can turn the screw all the way in & it has no effect on the running. I assume this is wrong. Is this an easy fix or should I seek a rebuilder?

Re: Carb problem

Remove the adjustment screws and spray some carb cleaner it the two holes, can follow that up with a couple quick shots of low pressure maybe 10 PSI compressed air. Reinsert the adjustment screws and go to the start position about 7/8 turn out and see if you have your problem fixed and can then adjust properly if not a rebuild may be in order.

Re: Carb problem

If it still runs with the idle screw fully closed it must be getting fuel from somewhere else. Bad power valve gasket.
Punctured power valve.
Warped housings causing vac leak to power valve chamber allowing power valve to stay open.
Punctured float.
Needle valve not sealing.
Fuel level too high.
All these (and probably more) can cause a 94 to run rich. This rich running will make the idle mixture screws more or less ineffective.

Re: Carb problem

Most likely the ineffective screw is on the passenger side where the throttle arm action

exerts wear on the throttle shaft and throttle shaft bore. Anything over .005 wear
here is risky and an annoying source of vac leaks....as well as warping as Mart sug-
gests. O/S t shaft may be in order.

Are there any recommendations of a carb rebuilder for a 91-99?
