The fun begins

Ruby the truck arrived today. Super pleased. Just have to adjust the carburetor for our elevation.

Did I not read someplace that starting in 1939 Ford cars and pickups had synchros for 1st gear? Ruby does not.

Had a hell of a time working today, wanted to be driving.

Tried a few times. Got a “your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing” error.

I’ll post as soon as I get that figured out.

Try pressing upload for one or two at a time. I've had that when I tried a bunch at once. Providing the file size isn't the glitch.

I figured it out. They were all 11MB. Downsized them.

Bummer... But fixed. Dang computers!!! Gimme mechanical stuff every time!

Oh yeah, I'm very envious. Sweeeeet.

Obviously been cared for. I hope it's as sorted as it is nice looking!

The droopy door handles just give it the 'I'm not a trailer queen' look. My '35 Sedan does it too, I just try to fix it before pics cuz it bugs me a little.

The red zipties gotta go.

What sticker is that in the drivers windshield?

Zip ties. Also a black one with a long tail that wasn’t cut. And some welting that is coming out. Going to spend the weekend going through things.

VERY NICE!!!!! You're gonna get all sorts of free advice. Do all your gauges work ? Check your brakes (mechanical or juice ??) and all electrical for frayed wires then drive the heck out of her!

Re: The fun begins

Temp gauge non functioning. There is an aftermarket temp gauge mounted below dash. Repairing original (if possible) is on list of to do. Juice brakes work about as I expected. Wiring is in good shape. Lights work (6 volt) I drove to a friends at dusk. I was told it was restored in the ‘80’s by the former owner who recently passed.

Plan to drive the snot out of it.

More free advice... Not a top-of-the-list thing, but the fuel inlet hose to the pump has serious kinkage. If you take that off getting it back on could be... interesting.

Any date code on the tires? That could be telling. https://www.google.com/search?q=dot+...hrome&ie=UTF-8

Re: The fun begins

Good points both Jeff. I hadn’t noticed the kink. Date codes I’m certain are an issue although I’ve not checked. Adding that to the weekend list.

.

.....and, NO synchros on 1st gear.....sorry! Nice truck!! DD

Re: The fun begins

What the gearbox did have in 1939 was improved synchros. Still only on second and top, but a better shift action. My understanding is that deluxe jobs got the better synchros. In my mind I feel they were paving the way for the 1940 column shift intro.

Nice truck. It will be fun going through that one. If you're using cable ties, if you don't have a flush cutter then a pair of garden secateurs can make a nice flush cut. At least mine can.

May I ask how did you expect the brakes to perform?

Mart.

I have 39 pkp. I wish it looked like that , but I chose to leave it original . The fuel pump with the bowl is not original to the 39 and is causing some of the kinking , you can take the fuel pump apart and turn it so the bowl is farther from the hard line. But will change the line from the pump to the carb. Sunshine
