47 Truck Door Question

Just curious - Does anyone know why Ford put a metal channel around the truck door windows from 1942 - 1947? It seems contrary to their continual efforts to eliminate unnecessary items to reduce costs. Thanks

Re: 47 Truck Door Question

Between runners and parts rigs I have six of these trucks. I'm hard pressed to find any good door glass. Sheesh. Harder use? Funny just yesterday I was chasing rattles in my tonner, and I noticed the steel wrap on the windows is pinched in such a way that the door fuzzy channel should be the same with or without the frame. And just to be clear, yes I agree it was done to add strength to the door glass. Did it help? Sometimes.....

Re: 47 Truck Door Question

Could it have been tied to possibly military requirements in WWII? That was surely harder use than civilian use is. Maybe it took until 1947 for Ford to run out of stock.
