1941 Ford trunk tool compartment The tool compartment in my '41 trunk has wooden covers. Are those original and if so how are they finished? Painted, varnished (?)

Originally they were dipped in a mixture of old paints and oils. The result was a dull blackish color.

Re: 1941 Ford trunk tool compartment I have used a black stain on the new plywood from Min-Wax. As it soaks into the wood it gives a dull finish.
