1936 Ford Pickup daily driver project

5 Attachment(s)
Ran across a photo on my phone of my 1936 Pickup in its bare painted frame from exactly 13 Months ago. Decided to post some photos. I bought this truck from the Estate of Jerry Grayson (RIP) great guy. I decided to dismantle it and build it into a daily vehicle and do every square inch of the work myself. From start to finish I only worked on it on Saturdays and a few Sunday evenings. It took a total of 57 weekends. Me and My 6 year old daughter painted it all in my back yard at my house. We finished it in June and I have put as of today 3487 miles on it with zero issues.

A Few specs, 1936 Pickup w/ a 1935 NOS grille, brassworks radiator. It has a Factory relieved 59A block, w/ a 4" crank and NOS Aluminum Canadian 47-48 heads. NOS military surplus camshaft. Lincoln brakes, 1939 trans, and 3.25 rear end gears. I used a 40 deluxe front end with the factory sway bar and added a rear sway bar. It cruises comfortably at 75-80 mph on the highway. If it doesn't rain this has been my daily vehicle. The photo in front of our long grey shop was taken today

Outstanding Michael. So love it. You have now inspired me to get my 36 pickup knocked into shape as a shop truck after its 40 odd years of laying in a barn. Well done my friend.

Your 36 pickup sure looks way nice and will inspire a lot of folks to get busy on their projects too! Thanks for the pictures and specs on your outstanding truck! Great that your daughter helped you on this also. Great memories!

Great lookin' truck Michael. Jerry would be proud. I sure miss my very close and dear friend Jerry Grayson. Glad his truck ended up in good hands.

Lawson i hope Jerry would be proud. I took his vision for what he wanted it to be and went with it. As a side note, when I picked up the pickup there was a can of grey paint labeled “Grayson” grey. I went to the paint store and looked through thousands of paint chips for a factory modern color that resembled it. The closest I found was a 2018 Audi color called Nardo Gray. That’s what It is painted in using Tamco base clear. I hated the color at first but it’s grown on me

In one of the photos it has Goodyear bias ply tires which I like the look of best. I mounted another set that is on it in the other photos that are Coker Radials. I drive it on the interstate at speed and felt that would be safer. I left the Goodyear on the spare

I assume the tires with the scalloped edge are the Goodyears. In the Mack Hils book "Ford Pickups 1932-1952" there are several original pictures of 1936's with scalloped-edge tires that appear very similar; it's a very neat look!

Yes, that's correct. That was why I went with them. In my opinion they are the only Authentic looking tire. Kelsey Tire Co, is who makes them and unlike Coker tires they are made here in the USA in Indiana.
