NOS heads

7 Attachment(s)
Hello,
I have this pair of NOS aftermarket heads. They are made by Perfection Gear Co. out of Harvey Illinois. Obviously they made these heads and avoided copyright lawsuit by putting the name "FORA" on each head instead of Ford. I'm wondering if these were cheater heads or were they intended for stock replacement. Are they desirable? (I'd love to see them polished) The original box states they are for Ford 85 HP or Mercury 95 HP engines.
If anyone of you can shed some light on these, I would appreciate it.

Re: NOS heads

Check the volume (in CC's) of a combustion chamber. That'll tell you if they are "cheaters" or not.

Re: NOS heads

I have one of these FORA heads that is brand new. On mine, the FORA is larger font and above the "made in usa" text. Decent casting.

Them pics wouldn’t upload for some reason. I will have to import to my PC and upload the chamber side pics from PC. Thanks, I’ll figure it out tonight.

Normal would be cast iron.

Thanks guys, although I did not check the cc's like Kube suggested, I did compare side by side with an iron head. Other than the obvious aluminum VS steel, they appear to both be the same size. I'm going to conclude they were just a stock replacement head except aluminum. The company was in Illinois from 1890 until 1962. Not much other info about the heads or company readily available without much investigating.
As always, I appreciate everyone's input. Have a great day

Re: NOS heads

I feel "picky" today;:D those are NORS heads, not NOS.

NORS means "New Old Replacement Stock". I think we all know what NOS means.

Re: NOS heads

Without doing the research, and from observation of the pictures provided, it becomes obvious that the sand casting molds that made these heads originated with a cast iron Ford Script head. Those with any degree of sand casting mold experience can substantiate this from the pictures alone. This fact in itself proves the heads to be a low budget ripoff product. I would think them to be of wall hanger value.

Re: NOS heads

I think it would be difficult to just use an existing Ford head as the cast model, directly that is. There is a lot of shrinkage with a casting, everything would be move so that they would line up!

Re: NOS heads

Hey! My single RNOS FORA head is not a wall hanger! It is a door stop. Wall hangers dent the floor when they fall.

A single use paper mache female mold is made from the original male model. As for shrinkage/movement, you can see the slight misalignment at the precise placement of the stud holes. Rework blemishes around the FORA are visible also. 7 nubs remain from casting overflow holes.
