Period aftermarket red license plate light lens

Does anyone reproduce the period aftermarket red glass lens for the license plate lamp for the second tail lamp?

Thanks.

Re: Period aftermarket red license plate light lens

If it is a Ford style tea cup light it would use the same lens as the other one.

But a "period aftermarket red glass lens" if not Ford style is very vague. There were a LOT of different lights on the market.

Re: Period aftermarket red license plate light lens

What I am seeking is the lens for the license plate lamp which I did specify, not the lens for the tail/brake lamp and given that it is the Model A site, it would seem reasonable that it would be for a Model A. Forgive me for assuming that. How about if I add "curved lens for the lamp that illuminates the rear license plate on '29-'31 Fords"?

I have a new tail light assy for the right side that I do not need. I will trade it to you for the left side you must have. Yours must be in like new condition or I will not trade.

Yes all Model A Vendors sell them!!

Re: Period aftermarket red license plate light lens

Gary WA,

I checked by Snyders and Macs and neither sell them in red glass, only in semi-clear glass. I am not looking for the lens for the brake and tail lamp portion of the tail lamp assembly, but rather the curved lens for the opening in the lamp housing that illuminates the rear license plate. They existed in the era aftermarket in red glass for use with a second tail lamp.

bucket-o-rust,

Thanks for your offer, but I seeking only this particular red glass aftermarket license lens, not a whole lamp.

You need The Tail Light King

Re: Period aftermarket red license plate light lens

I assume you have a good reason to want the red lens you are looking for. But just in case do you know that they make a right side tail light assy that does not have the opening in it for that red lens you are looking for?

Re: Period aftermarket red license plate light lens

I bet the vast majority of people here have never heard of what you are looking, so forgive us for not being on the same page as you are. Many people that add the 2ed tail light ether get the one made for the passenger side of add the bracket to hold a club plate or date of car plate.

Maybe you could have started your search with something like; Back in the early years of the the Model A if a customer wanted a lamp installed on the right side a red lens was installed in place of the clear lens that lit the license plate. Does anyone know or have heard of such a lens to fit a 29-31 tea cup lamp?

You do sate it is an aftermarket lamp, is it Ford (style) or other?

Look at Updraughts link.

There is a curved A red lens in there.

Dunno what it is meant for tho. (being red).

Re: Period aftermarket red license plate light lens

If you have a clear one, you could use it as a pattern and cast your own in RED or buy one from the site Updraught gave a link to.

Re: Period aftermarket red license plate light lens

1) Yes, I have a reason to want one, i.e. two tail lamps and only one license plate.
2) I do not need the Tail Light King because he doesn't have one.
3) I find it hard to believe that any Model A enthusiast doesn't know what a curved '29-'31 license plate lamp looks like, regardless of its color.
4) Unlike genuine Ford tail lamp housings without an opening for a license plate lamp lens, which don't exist except as a reproduction creation, curved red license plate lens do exist as I have two of them, but they were of-the-period aftermarket parts for Ford lamp housings, not genuine Ford parts, but were made to fit Ford lamps as a substitute for the stock clear LICENSE lamp lens.
5) Do a lot of people look for parts for non-Model As on this fordbarn.com forum?
6) What site above? None specified other than that for the Tail Light King.
7) I am embarrassed for you all as no third degree took place with the same ad wording on the early V8 forum on this site. Someone knew exactly what I was looking for.

A1006R is the part number on his site with a picture. Its a red curved license light lens.

says he has 2 for $10 each...

Were these for another country or state that required dual tail/brake lights?

arts n crafts places here sell transparent spray paint - take the lense out and paint it red and reinstall it. Paint is for making fake stained glass and adheres really well to glass and plastics.

If'n you have a clear one you could paint it red w/nail polish.

If you have 2 why are you looking? Is it even a Ford tail light you need the lens for? Does the US parts catalog show a parts number?

No, this is a Ford forum.

Could be it was more common to add a 2ed tail light in the V8 era then on the A's, so there are more out there.

To bad you could not take the time to educate us on something most do not know about. It could have been an opportunity for many here to learn something new. Instead you harangue us for trying to help. As it is, if this is an ad looking to buy it should have been in the wanted classifieds.

Re: Period aftermarket red license plate light lens

SeaSlugs and Kathy,

Thanks for your tips.

I've used the special paint for faded plastic tail lamps and it works pretty well, but it is sort of dull compared to one made of red glass.

I did overlook those on taillampking.com on my first try. I'll contact them although in their photo the lens appears to be painted on the inside rather than cast in red glass as the raised section looks to be clear on the edge.

jhowes,

That's the name of the game, I agree, but a couple of the above fall short of being helpful. I have a simple rule regarding these forums. If I can't contribute in a positive manner, I don't add my two cents.

redmodelt,

Sir, your responses are unhelpful and repetitive. Please follow updraught's and SeaSlugs' advice and educate yourself on taillampking.com.
