Info on Ford's 5T cams? Does anyone have any knowledge of, or info on, Ford's 5T camshaft? I know it was a truck cam, and reputedly had a bit more torque at lower revs. I also know when I was a young 'un back in the 60s, that stock car guys here in New Zealand had to run stock engines, so they used a 5T cam to get a little more out of the engine. I have one, and I'm wondering whether it's worth the effort to replace the stock cam in my C59A engine. Thanks.

Re: Info on Ford's 5T cams? After disassembling a good number of engines with the 5T cam I am of the opinion there is nothing "special" about it and that it was not a "truck only" cam in the USA.

Re: Info on Ford's 5T cams? Seems about all the early blocks have that cam has that 5T stamped on the front. They all have about .300 lift. Nothing special. Walt

Re: Info on Ford's 5T cams? I agree, the vast majority of the engines I've stripped had the 5T marked cam. I've degreed one that didn't have 5T stamped on it to compare it with a 5T marked cam, they were identical.
Its just a stock cam. I'm sure it replaced the real early cam that had a slightly hotter profile. Martin. |
Re: Info on Ford's 5T cams? I would have to agree also with JWL , Walt & Scooder , as I have checked many 5T cams & they were all stock flathead.

Re: Info on Ford's 5T cams? It may be a good candidate for regrind. Unground original cams have a lobe base circle of 1.165". They get about .050" smaller with each regrind.

Re: Info on Ford's 5T cams? Nope, 5T is a good cam, but not worth pulling a running flatty down to install another stock cam. More bump would worth a thought if you can find a bumpier stick at the right price.
