Interior kick plates

I need to make new interior kick plates for my 42. The original stuff is almost like dense oily cardboard with some sort of vinyl layer. Just wondering what other folks have used? I think it needs to be somewhat flexible and water resistant. I'm sure at some point it could get water on it. Not that i plan on driving in the rain, but you never know :)

I made mine from cardboard. Two good coats of rino liner I role'd it on. Then couple
spray coats of gray. Not that I'm cheap but irritating waiting game and shipping cost
more that the item.

rhino liner is a good idea, I was thinking about using 1/8 hardboard. But that would fall apart if it got wet.

I used 1/8" plywood, painted with any paint to seal and protect then fabric or vinyl covering.

Hmm.... Maybe Luan plywood would be better. Forgot about that stuff.

That's exactly what I used.

I haven't check lately, but a few years back a local upholstery supply sold kick panel and door panel material.

I just had a flash how about that stuff used in freezers commercial kitchens its plain
white on one side and small pebble grains on the other I think its fiber glass or plastic,
its thin & bendable home depot lowes etc. By the way you shouldn't get any water in
there or moisture. If you do, try that "Phil Swift" stuff as on TV, rubber in a can? Now sold at home depot. We had a truck came in with rust pin holes on the crankcase we
cleaned it well sprayed that stuff on dry as a bone. We did that while we wait and
wait for a new oil pan almost a month ? but it did not leak. good stuff.

I also went to an upholstery shop, they sold me some heavy board that is black in color, comes in about a 5x3 sheet. It's thin enough that it can be upholstered and still fit into the groove track to retain it.

Re: Interior kick plates

The embossed plastic sheeting recommended by fordor41 is your best bet as it is strong, yet flexible, impervious to moisture, and is about the same thickness as the original panels. Just paint the textured side the color of your choice and you're off to the races.
