Where are the antennas mounted on a 35 roadster?

The V8 Club 35-36 Ford Book on page 129 illustrates the 35 spare wheel antenna. Great book available on their web site.

Hi ,I have a 1935 Ford roadster and the spare tire is the antenna, The cast iron spare is insulated from the tailpan by fibre washers. The antenna cable comes through the center of the car along drive shaft tunnel to the spare tire mount. To my surprise it works quite well.

As others have indicated, in 1935 the only option for a roadster would have been the spare tire antenna. The running board antenna did not come out till 1936 when the introduction of the trunk back convertible sedan(with spare tire inside trunk) forced Ford to come up with another open car option.

Introduced in 1934, the spare tire antenna carried over to 1935 and 36. Here are two images. One from the original antenna literature and the other installation sheet from a Dennis Carpenter reproduction kit.

Hi, There is no antenna per say. The actual wire wheel is the antenna. All you need is to purchase the cable kit from one of the suppliers. Maybe C+G ?

I have used an under runningboard antenna on my '36 for years. no problem, even when dirty

Does anyone have an idea how to mate these two cables for the radio. I bought the spare tire kit from C&G.

I called them but they were of no help.

Old31: The 35 and 36 radios have their short antenna cable built into the radio. That short cable attaches the the spare tire antenna cable for the open cars and to a cable that is attached to the soft top chicken wire for the closed cars. If your radio does not have the built in antenna cable, but a female plug for the male connector you have shown, I suggest you contact Narragansett wiring to see if they have a solution they may have a female end for the spare tire cable.

The connecter that you show that looks like a bulb base fits the original radio there is a pigtail coming out of the radio to match if you are trying to attach to modern radio start with old time metal fuse holder and solder section of modern lead to it --perhaps bulb socket can be made to fit too

FYI on info I found on Narragansette, 2018.

I can not get anyone on the phone (Narragansett wiring) (after multiple calls) and can not get their website mail to work.

I just went to their website and it came up. http://narragansettreproductions.com/ (site does not work).

However, I've never used them. I use Narragansett's brother's wiring service - Rhode Island Wiring Service. http://www.riwire.com/

I just called RIWire and was told that the owner of Narragansett passed away a few weeks ago. His son is now running the business.

It's my understanding from talking for the owner of RI Wire Service many decades ago that the owners of both companies are brothers who worked together and then split and set up competing companies.
