1954 Ford 239 Flexplate

Hi,
My son has a 1954 Ford with a 239 y block and it has a broken flex plate. In looking at the different suppliers of the updated flex plate none of them shows it will work on his 239. I also see in the flat rate manual the 1954 carries a different part number than the 55-56 did. Does anyone know if the updated one will indeed work on his 239?
Thanks
Steve

The correct SERVICE PN for the 54 239CI flex-plate is B8A 6375-C. It is a 1958 PN released for service retrofit. It is the same as used on the period 223CI six FM. It also requires B9AZ 6A366-A reinforcing rings (3) as the replacement will not be as a heavy gauge as the original part.

Please do me a favor, when the plate is replaced take a quality photo and post it within this thread. I would like to know how it looks.

Hi KULTULZ,
Thanks for the reply. I sure will post a photo if and when he pulls it out, as he may change mind and repower or sell. I'm assuming then that that service part number flexplate is limited to the 1954 239 & 223 and the 55-56 will not work?
Thanks again
Steve

Correct. 1955/ uses a different plate.

Do you need a possible parts source?

This info is from an older post on a truck forum discussing the flex-plate for a 223CI. It will give dealer locations that showed having them in stock -

Thank you very very much. With your information I was able to grab one on ebay, thus a Christmas present for my son.
Thanks again
Steve

I have a 54 with the same flex plate and would also like to know if the later
55, or 56 will work. Mine is good at this time, but it would be beneficial to
know. (Air cooled Ford O Matic trans).

FORD made changes/improvements in the FM design for the 1955 model run. FORD and BW had a joint design that ended in 1955. That explains the flex-plate differences. The 3PC CONVERTOR was also different.

But you have to confirm what trans is actually in the car (as it may have been changed) and that indeed the engine is a 1954 EBU 239CI.
