Original color ignition cable
 

Please, what was the color for the ignition wire between i-coil/distributor center on the 1928- Model A.

Black or red?

The high tension wire was black lacquered cloth covered.

Black 16 gauge.

The Red was only used on the Ignition Switch down to the Coil. There are two different sizes on those but I don't remember the exact change-over date but I am thinking latter part of '28.

this is helpful, thanks! Then I understand correctly that all cables - ignition and electrical - were black at that time except the ignition lock cable in the steel armor tube?

Don't understand your question - the only black wires in the system are from coil to firewall block and lighting switch to tail light.

The coil wire is a high tension lead that runs between the output tower of the coil to the input tower terminal in the center of the distributor cap. Bob C has that one answered. The power wire from the terminal box to the "ign" side of the coil is black. The breaker ground interconnecting wire from the "dist" terminal on the coil to the ignition switch or pop out switch is red.

Modern ignition switches can be converted to switch power to the coil on and off or is can be like the pop out and switch the breaker point ground circuit. Neither are original since a lot of folks do away with the pop out switch in the modern era. Armored cables for the modern type pop out look alike switch are available to make it all look original. If a person doesn't pull the dash out, Most folks that don't know model A cars all that well will never know it doesn't have an original pop out switch until they get educated.

A lot of folks just use what ever high tension lead is available to them but the old black lacquer covered high tension lead was what Ford used. No boots were used as far as I know.
