Ground wire to Universal housing?

current project is attempting to fix Speedometer issue, (replacing Driveshaft bearing/sleeve, seal, thrust washer and snapring) to much slop and eating the speedometer drive gear.

Universal joint cover was a b***h to get loose, in hindsight should have removed the floor boards and gone thru the top, the battery ground was connected at the top of the U-joint housing, is this normal or was it just easier when the car was being restored and no floor boards, any thoughts?

Also anything I should look out for in, when I pull the drive shaft out, (all ready dropped the diff.)

my battery ground strap goes from battery to frame center crossmember, then using the same bolt, another strap goes from center crossmember over to a transmission top bolt. Taht way I have direct ground from battery to frame and direct to transmission/engine.

Any thoughts :-) remove the floor boards and work from above. I get vertigo when working above my head.

The 2-strap system Ken uses is a good idea.
