Help with leaking carburetor
 

Need some help fixing a leaking carburetor. It is leaking from where the accelerator pump connecting rod goes through the bottom of the carburetor. This is my first attempt working on this carburetor. My grandpa has owned this car since the early 70’s. My question is, there are 2 felt rings that are riding on the connecting shaft, are those in the right place or am I missing something? Thanks for any help

felt seals should be in the cavity where the rod comes out and not visible, this compresses the felt to act as a seal

Welcome to the Barn. That looks like a '49 to '51 Mercury or Lincoln carburetor. There are not supposed to be the two felt washers on the pump rod in that location. There is supposed to be just one felt washer under the washer that is staked in place on the round raised area, and the pump rod goes through the middle of it.
If there is fuel running down from that area, then there is more than likely another issue inside the carb, like a high fuel level or flooding. There is not supposed to be fuel laying in that area.

Sal, thank you for the help. I had the same thought that I probably should not be getting fuel leaking down from that rod. I will do some more investigating. Also, you are correct, the carb is off my grandpas 49 Mercury. I have had the car since late March and have some entertaining “fixes” I have came across that I have been cleaning up. I should take the time to post a few for others to enjoy. I have a second carb that I may just entertain the idea of sending to you for repair if I think this one will continue to give me fits. Do I just message you at that time. Thanks again
