255 mercury carb rebuild kit I am looking for a supplier for a carb rebuild kit for a 1953 Monarch with a 255 flathead V-8. The carb is the same as the Mercury’s And has a four bolt base.
Does anyone know where to get a rebuild kit? |
Re: 255 mercury carb rebuild kit Even the Canadian Mercury and monarch should use the same Holley 1901-FF carburetor for 1953 as the US built Mercury 255. You might send Charlie NY a PM. This is a link with his post about them.

Re: 255 mercury carb rebuild kit In my humble opinion forget the kit and send the carb to Sal Cicala who posts here .
Sal is THEE guy for these carbs. Charlie ny |
Re: 255 mercury carb rebuild kit Where the mercury tea cups very good carbs? Where they an improvement over the 3 bolt carb? Strange looking compared to the ford Holley.

Re: 255 mercury carb rebuild kit scicala mostly posts on the late V8 part of the forum. Just look for any threads about carbs. I've found that many of the 885 Holley carbs were damaged by previous mechanics and require replacement parts but they are out there. Tightening things too tight can warp the hell out of them. The 1901 carbs may have the same issues. When the bowl on top types are right, they are very reliable and work well.

To me they were good carburetors. Just need to pay attention to detail when putting them together. They flow a little more air than the Holley 94 type 3 bolt carbs, since the Mercury was a larger engine (255). Sal |
Re: 255 mercury carb rebuild kit Sal,
My apology for mis spelling your name. Charlie ny |
Re: 255 mercury carb rebuild kit I won't speak for Sal but I think you had it right Charlie. The S in Sal's forum moniker is likely his first name initial.

Re: 255 mercury carb rebuild kit Thanks for all the feedback guys.
It is very helpful to me. The car is a 1953 Monarch convertible trailer queen. However I have decided I would rather drive it than admire it so a carb rebuild is in order. Thanks for the tips. |
Re: 255 mercury carb rebuild kit If you decided to do the rebuild yourself or have it done locally a good source for carb kits is Daytona Carburetor: https://www.daytonaparts.com/ JMO

Re: 255 mercury carb rebuild kit Hi Sal. Thanks for replying to my post re rebuilding a 1953 Monarch 255 cubic inch carb.
The car is a Canadian Monarch convertible which I totally rebuilt a number of years ago but it has been a garage queen with very, very limited use. However I plan to drive it this year. I have a retired Ford / Mercury dealer mechanic freeing up the choke which was seized and he also asked for a carb rebuild kit. The carb is a Holley 9510..J2. All of the kits I see are for the 239 Fords with a 3 bolt base whereas mine has a 4 bolt base. What is the correct kit? Thanks Jim |
Re: 255 mercury carb rebuild kit Hi Jim,
The carb number you listed was incomplete. Maybe it wasn't stamped complete. Should be EAC-9510-J2 I've had very good luck with the kit on this link. Lowest price I've found too. You can also try Daytona Carburetor in Florida. Sal https://www.ebay.com/itm/Holley-Mode...wAAOSwLJ9Z7MmU |
