comecial painted truck rad shell

for my lil 31 speedster ive been watching for a nice commercial painted truck radshell, I thought it may look more the part without the stock nickle rad shell. however a local expert told me it will not fit that the truck commercial shell is different somehow. does anyone know for sure here?

The AA shell might not fit. For mid 1930 and all of '31, the AA shells were deeper to accommodate the AA radiator with an extra row of tubes. It's easy to tell the difference between an A and AA radiator for those years: the AA radiator didn't have the widow's peak at the top.

ok it would most likely bolt on but there would be a gap between the shell and the rad in the front then?

Doug is right about the AA commercial but there is the A commercial(pickup) which is the same as the 1930 passenger except it's magnetic steel and has the widow's peak. BTW, the passenger shell is stainless not nickle for 1930-31. Decent magnetic steel shells are somewhat difficult to find since they rust or were beat to death due to being a commercial vehicle. You may be able to scuff or sandblast a stainless shell, epoxy prime, and paint to suit.

The WIDOW'S (not windows) peak is the downward facing point midway across the upper face of the radiator shell directly below the Ford emblem. Look at your own avatar. Directly above your #7.

Look at your picture of No. 7 (your avatar) Below the ford emblem centered on the top is a kind of "Eddie Munster Hairline" point.

This is the "widow's peak" so named for those whose hairline has receded a bit and has assumed this outline. (Often attributed to middle aged single men who mess around with widows - or so I'm told.)

This is a AA shell, you can see it is straight across the top.

This is an A shell with the widows peak. Note the '30 and '31 were the same except the emblem.
