#6/9 stamp

Can anyone tell me where I can buy a correct #6/9? The 9 on my engine is nearly impossible to read and I want to freshen it up. Thanks

McMaster Carr sells stamp. Now whether theres a match to font and size you’ll have to determine.
Really good and matching stamps are sold in full sets to approximate original ford.

Sometimes the local club will have a set of stamps for users to use. Otherwise, you can buy a set at the usual vendors. The font was changed sometime in 1931.

Quote from Judging standards page 1-2 revised 2011:

"The style of numerals was changed in Feburary 1931, altering the shapes of the 1, 6, and 9."

"Old style before March 1931."

"New style March 1931 to end of production."

Thanks guys, our club does not have a numbers set. What is a regular vender, Snyders or who? Thanks again,

Thank you, but I'm a disabled Vet on limited income so these would be out of my budget. Thanks for responding though

Gwill - A word to the wise - I've found that every time I've attempted to "freshen" up a stamped number or letter I never get the stamp perfectly in the original and end up with a double stamp that looks worse than leaving the original alone. If yours is an original number stamp on the engine you might try taking a very sharp pointed rod or punch and cleaning the accumulated rust, paint and goo out of it.

JayJay is correct. It is quite difficult to restamp numbers and get a nice result.

Re: #6/9 stamp

What Jay said is what I was thinking all along. If your paperwork agrees leave it be. "One digit my answer will always be "out of all those characters..it matches the paperwork. I mean what are the odds". If it appears to be tampered with it will be more questions than you can imagine. Some states are miserable about these things.

Another thing. When a block is stamped, I think it required a 2 1/2 or 3 lbs hammer, and I'd imagine you gotta hit that thing pretty hard. Might be hard to do if in the car.

Steelwool by hand, not a wire brush on a drill!!!!!!!!!!!
