40 Ford Convertible Female Dovetail Installation

The female dovetail unit is missing in the drivers side B Pillar. How do I get into the B Pillar to install it? Do I have to cut a hole in the back of the pillar to get to it? Seems no way in. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance, Frank

They are spring loaded and come out by using a screw driver, pushing in while moving up (for the bottom one) or down for the top dovetail. Installation is just the reverse.

My first post probably wasn't very clear. The female doves go in from the outside. There are small raised tabs, one up and one down, that the springs seat against, then using a screwdriver push the upper dove in to the spring and up, and lower dove in and down. It may take a minute or so to get them in place. Best to first insert the springs into the doves-a little grease will keep them in place. Clear as mud? :)

Do it like V8 Bob described. Attached is a picture of one of mine.
