Blinker on if pilot light off

Hey brand new we are working on a 55 fairlane converted to 12 volt. Black and yellow wire for pilot light both pilots come on. If the blinker is put on with pilot light it does not blink- if pilot light off then blinkers work. Is this the original design or are we missing something. I appreciate your help in advance. The blinkers do function with the headlights on.

The L & R turn indicator lamps in the dash should light up at the same time as the L & R turn signal lamps at each end of the car.

You may have loose or oxidized ground connections at some of the fixtures or a few crossed wires.

We had rewired everything. I was unsure if the pilot lights were actually parking lights.

I had also used led lights and the blinker was not recognizing the flasher. We switched back to 12 volt bulbs and the headlights work with the blinkers. If just the parking light is on the blinkers dont work. We figured it was a setting issue. So the first position on the ignition was for parking lights , second for headlights and blinkers.

Not sure if it's just me, it is getting late, but....
The only thing in your above paragraph I can understand is... the led turn signal bulbs not working with an original turn signal flasher. Led bulbs do not create enough current load to make the flasher function.

What are referring to as the 'parking lights'?
Why are the headlights working with the blinkers?
Why is the ignition switch controlling the parking and headlights?
None of these things make any sense to me.
Do you have a good original wiring diagram for the car?

All the light fixtures have to have a good electrical Ground connection to the body of the car, and the body of the car has to have a good electrical connection to the Ground terminal of the battery.
Have you changed the car from Positive to Negative ground?

The dash indicator lights are on the same circuit as the front turn signals (so as not to feed through the brake light switch like the rears). If you want your parking lights to come on with the headlights as they do on newer cars, all you have to do is move a wire on the headlight switch and put the parking lights on the same circuit with the taillights.

By "pilot lights" do you mean parking lights or front turn indicators? Never heard them called that. "Pilot light" makes me think of a gas stove or furnace. Is that British/Canadian/Aussie terminology?

if you want to use led bulbs replace the flasher with an electronic one all over e pay 5-10 bucks
