How to ground a tail light?

I just added a RH tail light to my sedan. It’s been 40 years since I last installed a tail light, and I can’t remember how they are grounded! Please advise.

Metal bolts to metal of the fender, fender bolts to body, & Etc. Clean to metal in spots to aid continuity

Thanks. That sort of what my increasingly dimished memory was saying. :)

What J says is correct.

Depending on the amount surgery sometimes needed to get a good ground without removing paint where you don't want paint removed I've resorted to adding a ground wire inserted in a old time woven loom from the socket to a good ground location.

Star washers give good grip through paint.

Someone suggested star washers to me earlier in the week after I painted my headlight bar, and they worked great!
