Finally it rained since it snowed. I get the sloshing sound drivers door. took
door panel off and have four inches of water. The door is as new as built, I
mean black nooooo rust. I sucked water out. There is absolutely no drain
holes in this door and I ain't blind yet. No there is not any thick undercoat
there either. I dried cleaned under and inside NO trace of any drain hole.
Suppose it will be a drill and where the lowest point with a level. And then
I have new window rubbers and those 'whiskers' how water gets in there
with a normal rain ya got me....its a 46 Super Deluxe. No other door does
this but I can not feel any drains in those either.. Guess its begging for a car
port. Its my only wheels sam

My '48 coupe has drain holes in the doors. It would be hard to imagine doors not having drain holes.

big job, my '47 Super Deluxe has two drain holes in each door....one up by the front and one back by the door edge. I'd guess they are somewhere between the size of a dime and a nickle...so not insignificant. Wonder if some past bodywork....welded in new bottom....covered originals up.


Can't tell from your Avatar if yours is a Tudor or a Fordor, but are all doors like the driver's?

its a fordor no signs of any patch (we do body work also). Original weather
striping still good shape maybe the door was replaced back in its hay day?

A good sharp drill is your friend. As Dick indicates the hole is somewhere between the size of a dime and a nickel.

What ever I have had, the doors have rains. Since the skin raps around the bottom, I clean out the bottom areas an then add used to reduce resting. Sometimes I have found rubber plugs in the original holes. On my 54 Merc, I plugged the holes and filed the rocker panel with used oil. After a week or so, I unplugged the holes so I could find my way home after a few beeeeerz.

all doors should have a drain of some style if you have to put them in ive found a step drill works spot on

After a couple hunreed beeeerz, I had plenty of fire extinguisher fluid. I will say that '54 Merc would tear up the highway. I converted her from automatic to stick shift OD. I had it nosed and decked and repainted '56 Plymouth "ice box " white. I drove her in colleges and through out Air Force pilot pilot training schools.

I was in summer School at Stevens and found time to find a '56 Ford stick OD in a junkyard. The only problem I had was the connecting shaft from the clutch to the pedal system. Our machine shop was open so I had help and good tools. That was not the scary problem: I had not stick shift '54 Merc to copy. Stevens is in Hoboken, Frankie's' town and there were hoodlums everywhere. One day at noon I went down town in the roughest section and looked in every '54 Merc there. By golly, there was a '54 stick near a bar. I raised the hood and measured the length of the shaft an beat feet big time to my hidden car. Loved that car and expected to drive it for ever. That was not in the cards...

Problem solved: I got my son to look in there and sure enough there were 74 yr old rubber plugs that he had to remove with a punch and hammer. They were hard as a
rock. And why, I have no clue, maybe a replacement door???
