Rear Main seal

I am rebuilding a 1936 LB motor and the rear main cap is the correct one but the slinger that the book shows doesn't fit in the cap. The slinger in the block works fine, not sure what to do about the cap. I have attached a couple of pictures. Please advise. Thanks, Jerry

VanPelt sells them, I would think he could help you out.

That cap is fitted as it is. The die cast insert 'that the book shows' was introduced sometime through the 1937 year.

Re: Rear Main seal

Your rear main bearing cap is not made for any of the insert type seal mounts. Your original crankshaft has two flanges at the rear one if for the beading thrust surface and the second is a slinger was designed to hopefully keep oil in the pan. In effect there's no separate rear rope seals in the early engines with the second flange.

Re: Rear Main seal

Jerry, thanks for posting this question, my 37 21 stud engine has the same rear main cap as yours. I also purchased the insert for it, but haven't even unwrapped it. Guess I can add it to the swap meet pile since I don't need it.
