A-6705-F Oil Filter Kit Installation
 

Hello,
Since I had the side cover off to replace some burnt valves I decided it would be a good time to install an oil filter kit on my Model A. I wanted one that would filter all the oil and decided on the A-6705-F Oil Filter kit from Snyder's...but I ran into one problem....

Here is the problem...when installing the curved oil connection tube it says it will be hard, but just work it into the main oil supply pipe. From what I see it is impossible to work into that pipe without cutting off about a half an inch of the oil connection tube first. It is just too long to fit into the space between the engine block and the first oil dam. I was just wondering if anyone else had run into this problem before I started cutting.

Needed to cut some off line to get it in. Installed right angle adapter for oil filter so its not sideways and prevent possible oil drainage. I think i needed to bend line to get it in
the supply line from the engine.

I cut mine off. A friend of mine said that he was able to get the whole tube in by working it into the outer pipe very slowly, since copper is pretty ductile, but he said it literally took a couple of hours and man, I do not have the patience for that. Maybe if you took a torch to it....

Get minny ratchet from HF, get a drill bit the size of the tube, break it down to a shorter size, grind off the end so it will go into the ratchet and drill in far enough for the tube. Don’t worry about the casting pieces you will clean off because they will get caught by the filter.
You will need to slide the drill first then the ratchet.

There was no way that the supplied tube would fit in my engine. I ended up making a tube that would fit. I suspect that the front oil dam varies a lot between engines.

Thanks for all the feedback....I plan to call Snyder's, but I wanted to find out what everyone said first. It looks like I would be able to make it work if I cut off about 1/2"-5/8" of tubing first. I also want to agree with the post about the 90 degree fitting to prevent the oil from running back into the engine when you shut it off. It would also make it less messy when changing oil.

I don't think the oil will run back into the engine since it fills from the top even with out the 90° adapter. If the fill was at the bottom I could see it run back. But I do agree that the 90° adapter makes for a cleaner filter change.

I drill out the cast tunnel with a 5/16 drill stub ground by eye to a hex shape on the end and held in a mini ratchet as shown in the pic along with screwdriver bits that came with the ratchet kit.
The cast oil tunnel often has casting sand granules protruding into the oilway and these block thexentry of the copper tube as you try to twist it in.
