28 Broadlace trim

Can anyone tell me when the "Broadlace" trim was deleted in 28. This is the piece of material that went along the top of the door trim panel.

I've gone through the Judging Standards and can't find anything. I've seen the info somewhere but I can't remember where it was.

I'm working on a 28 Sport Coupe. Production date Oct. 28. I can't read the day as it worn away.

Thanks: The Old Tinbasher.

Re: 28 Broadlace trim

I think you are combining the terms "broadcloth" and "windlace".

Re: 28 Broadlace trim

The broadlace trim was used on Coupes, Sport Coupes, Tudors, and Business Coupes with cloth interiors in 1928 and not used in the 1929 models.
The RG&JS does indicate that Canadian Sport Coupes also had the broadlace trim on the door panels.

Page 97 of the Ford Model "A" as Henry built it shows what you are looking for. It was known as an interior belt molding.

Here's the broadlace trim on my VE-28 Coupe. It is very close to original. If your interior will be in the brown tones, your broadlace trim would also be in brown.

Thanks Gary. This gives me an idea of what I'm looking for. JP

I like the colors. Would love to see more pictures of your interior. Very nice.

Enjoy.

Thanks Bick. Yes that's it. I have a sample for the door panel and it's the same as what is in your pictures. Excellent. So that's the trim I'm looking for. Another step closer. JP

Coachlace , windlace, seat piping, carpet binding.
Nothing available retail that comes close. You'll have to have them made.

Hey Jim, do you have a larger version of your picture, as it is hard to see any detail?

Cheers

Thanks Jim and Bick. Great info. Isn't it amazing what you can find out now with the internet. In a matter of days or hours. Compaired to the days when we would make phone calls and write letters to find something out. I remember working in a restoration shop in the 70's and taking 6 months to find a part or information.

Ok I also have a June 28 Tudor which uses this trim. I believe it is officially referred to as "coachlace" .Some will tell you it is the windlace flattened out but this isn't the case in my 28. I can't believe Lebaron Bonney or those with "stamped " versions of this trim didn't have it stamped closer to the original.
So to agree with one of the responders here it does have to be weaved.
I was speaking to Thistle Hill Weavers in Cherry Valley New York. The colors according to them were Pearl White, Black Pearl ,Lavender and Black. They were going to weave it for 500 but said they would lose money at it . Then I 'm supposed to have SMS Auto Fabrics in Oregon do it for 150 but so far they haven't produced it and it will be awhile yet. Let me know if you find a credible weaver to do this.

I've attached a photo of the sample from behind my panels so the color is as close to original as you can get. I also attached a photo of the coachlace on the panel. The coachlace sits just above the edge of the bedford cord on the panel.

For some reason my photo of my coachlace on the original Bedford Cord didn't upload so here it is.
