Re: Off topic Reminds me of a story Brian Bosworth (former football player and actor) used to tell. When he was younger, he worked in an automobile assembly plant. Every once in a while when they got bored, he and his pals would hang nuts and bolts on wires inside the doors and other body panels of the cars they were assembling.
His football and acting careers didn't last long either. |
Re: Off topic I think some of the stories about beer cans welded to the inside of bodies (back when they were steel) or other hidden objects that created a rattle with a note that said "finally found it" are like the Corvette in the barn or WWII motorcycles still in crates stories. JMO Regardless the humor in the OP is something we can all appreciate, especially right now. Again, JMO.

Re: Off topic Yes I remember we had a Holden HQ (GM Australia) police car that had a noise inside that would roll back and forth on bends. Car was in the end torn apart by the Police mechanic to find some wag on the factory line had placed a coke bottle strategically before buttoning everything up, they would have known it was going to be a cop car as the battle ship grey colour used back then was a special order Police only.

Re: Off topic The "Bosworth Story" was recounted by the man himself in "Sports Illustrated". He later retracted the story, and then a couple of years later un-retracted it. I think those last two depended on which phase of his career he was in at the time.;)

Re: Off topic I went to school with a guy who’s father owned a Dodge dealership.....they would find nuts and bolts in dome lights and other things that would rattle......sometimes a humorous note along with the items .........Mark

I recall (flash forward) to when AM was going out of business and the head of the Union, Rudy Kuzel or something DEMANDED job security. Well Rudy, perhaps you should have demanded the workers were not purposely sabotaging cars and stealing the place blind day after day. |
Re: Off topic Quote:
I saw first hand in the late 70's and early 80's the crates full of NEW motorcycles he had shipped to himself back here in Wisconsin. This stuff did happen... |

Re: Off topic You got that right Kube.
When I was a kid I heard about a Coke bottle found in the right rear of a ‘49 Ford from the Minneapolis/St. Paul factory with a note in it asking how long it took to find it. A guy I know that does wood maintenance on boats and woodie wagons tells about bringing a woodie wagon down to CA from Washington or Oregon. It had a noise in the right rear even when the car was stopped. Tuned out to be a rattlesnake! |
Re: Off topic My Dad worked in Chevy factory in 29 and 30.
He said when the six cylinder cars came out you could see a few inches of crankshaft sticking out below some workers coats when they left work at the end of a shift. The guards would just laugh. I had a customer in San Francisco that was a dock worker. He drove a Renault Dauphine so he could steal stuff and drive out without the guard looking in the trunk in front, he said the guard only opened the rear where the engine was. They would stage accidents on the docks so the workers could take whatever broke out of their containers. Workers were allowed to take stuff as insurance companies would pay for the losses. They like to drop loads of shoes. |

Re: Off topic Here's a story for ya'. When I was in the computer service business a couple of ice ages ago, I installed an inventory control system for the "Stores" (parts and supplies) function of a local steel mill. After three months, I had a meeting with the management where we evaluated the system's performance. They were very satisfied with it, but had one complaint; one category of items was way off, while the others were damn near perfect. They asked me why. I looked it over, and when I pointed out that the category that was off was "Hand Tools", they decided that they should look elsewhere for the problem.
