6.50X16 Radial Tires - Keep Beating a Dead Horse I've gone through all the posts about tubeless radial tires.. I currently have Coker bias-ply 6.00x16 tires and I am planning to switch to a tubeless radial. I know Diamondback makes the auburn in 6.00x16R My question; will 6.50x16 or its equivalent (185/75R16 - hard to find)... I don't care if they look like bias-ply.. Will the 6.50x16 fit my 47 Fordor sedan? or will I have rubbing issues in the fenderwell?

Re: 6.50X16 Radial Tires - Keep Beating a Dead Horse you are correct, the horse is dead

Re: 6.50X16 Radial Tires - Keep Beating a Dead Horse So my question is to 42-48 sedan owners... Will 6.50 x 16 tires rub in the fenderwells?
 |

Re: 6.50X16 Radial Tires - Keep Beating a Dead Horse Why not use a tape measure with the OD and width of the tire you want and compare it to the tire you have and see if it fits? If its close enough you are not sure it will fit, that's too close.

Re: 6.50X16 Radial Tires - Keep Beating a Dead Horse If you can't get a definitive answer, you might consider doing what I did on an OT bias era classic. Drove it to an agreeable local shop to mount & test just one radial that they *guessed* might work. It was OK in the rear, but rubbed frame-side front on full turns. Tried the next width down, better but still rubbed a bit. The shop only charged for six dismounts & mounts at $7 a pop. I gave them a 20% tip. I eventually ended up buying spacers from Amazon and the wider radials from the local shop cuz the outside clearance wasn't an issue. Jack E/NJ

Re: 6.50X16 Radial Tires - Keep Beating a Dead Horse A buddy of mine has a 41 woody with 600 X 16 Diamond Back(Dunlop) radial WW and no problems(fender clearance) whatsoever.

Re: 6.50X16 Radial Tires - Keep Beating a Dead Horse 1 Attachment(s)
Ok.. after Diamondback wanted to charge me $25 for each tire shipped.. I decided on this go around I would use a modern radial... after doing the tiresize.com comparisons, I settled on a Bridgestone, 195/80R/16... a tubeless radial made only by Bridgestone: the Ecopia EP-02 for Toyota RAV4 electric vehicles.. SAY WHAT?
The size is nearly identical to the 6.00X16 bias ply, both are 28.30 in diameter except the tread width on the Bridgestoneis approx 7.7 inches, whereas the Coker 6.00X16s have a tread width of 6.25.. AND I had no issues with leaks from my 1947 era 16 inch rims... I have to tell you, the ride is real nice, I had the car up to 72 mph on the freeway and no more bias-ply boogie to deal with... the price was less than $800 for five tires, mounted and balanced... NOT nearly $1300 after shipping and mounting that Diamondback wanted.. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...913187&SID=431 |
Re: 6.50X16 Radial Tires - Keep Beating a Dead Horse You are concerned with clearance on 42 to 48 sedans. Isn't a 41 the same as a 42. Are sedans different from coupes and convertibles.

Re: 6.50X16 Radial Tires - Keep Beating a Dead Horse Vintage Copper,
I have those exact tires on my 32 roadster (16" Kelsey wheels) and they are terrific. Look good, efficient rolling, correct size and not costly. Highly recommended! My opinion |
