Drive shaft bearing help Im I the process of replacing the seal in the drive shaft In the post that I have read it Talks about using a socket to push the race and seal out but does not explain which end it should come out of. The speedometer end or rear Also does it matter which way the speedometer gear goes in Thanks

Re: Drive shaft bearing help The seal and race come out the transmission end. I think the speedometer gear
will go either way, it's not like the Model A. Bob |
Re: Drive shaft bearing help Glad you mentioned that Bob, because I was thinking Model A instead of AA.
I have the driveshaft gear for a truck in the basement. I'll see if I can find it. |
Re: Drive shaft bearing help To remove the seal and the bearing sleeve. Stand the drive shaft vertical on a piece of wood on the floor with the spline end up. Set a 1and 1\16" socket on top of the spline. A six point socket works best.
Slide the torque tube over the drive shaft with the front end up. place a rag over the top of the torque and bounce it several times. The socket with push both the seal and the sleeve out and you can capture it in the rag. To install the seal and the sleeve. The seal must be driven into place first before the sleeve is installed. Go to the web site of the Santa Anita A's of Arcadia, California at www.santaanitaas.org On the home page put your cursor on "Technical Reference". My name will drop down below, click on it. A menu of technical articles will come up. Scroll to differential revised 2014. There is a page that will show you how to install the new seal and sleeve. Tom Endy |
