'35 Ford Standard Trunk Seals

1 Attachment(s)
Drake suggested I contact both the EFV8 and FordBarn. FordBarn has always been terrific.

Attached is a screen shot of the trunk seals Drake sells. But no installation info. My car is original and the lower seal (the body not the lid) is missing. But the lid seal has hardened. Any help on which seal goes where, and do I cover the drains on the body with the seal? Thank you.

The wider seal 1" wide by 130" long goes on the lid (48-725446) and the narrow seal 3/4" by 130" long goes on the body opening (48-725444).

I feel like Columbo. One more thing...Don, is the u slot face down on the metal for the body seal, and the lid seal... face up against the metal or down? OK. Another one more thing. Do I cover the drain holes on the body seam...Thanks.

I believe what Henry is asking is will the U shaped grooves face each other once installed.

Jim, The hollow side goes into the groove so the domed part is facing out.

My guess is if water got under the U shaped seal it could run down to the drains.

i guess i wasn't in on that, my seals came from vintuque, and that might be part of the problem. there is no domed top to them. and bending them around corners makes them bunch-up and wrinkle. if the water is expected to get under the rubber and find it's way to the outlets, i can see why so many gutters are in such bad shape. do they get glued in, or is it just a friction fit? only 1/6" per leg to put glue on, so i can't see that being the plan from ford, but who knows.

I started the post and then couldn't find the picture, so I deleted the text. The when I found the picture; I was going to edit the post; but it seemed to have disappeared so I started a new one and of course the initial post showed up.

The trunk seal I have fits snuggly in the groove and has stayed in place without glue for a few years now. The lid seal fits snug; but needs glue to stay there.

I stopped it at the drain holes on each side as someone on here posted; but then I put a piece between the holes as I had so much left.

I don't know what brand seals I have for sure; thinking Drake.
