Oil pump suction? 2 Attachment(s)
Just disassembled a Mercury flathead and this is what I found when I removed the pan! Do you think the screen got plugged and the oil pump tried to pull it in? This is a engine with super low miles (19K) but appears to have had lots of short trips. No ring travel, water jackets super clean but the inside gummed up bad.

Re: Oil pump suction? Have you determined what the stuff in the pan is?

Re: Oil pump suction? A little water in the bottom of the pan froze?
|
Re: Oil pump suction? Yep, the oil pump collapsed it due to the clogging.

Re: Oil pump suction? That is just sludge in the bottom of the pan. I just thought it was interesting, I had never seen that before!

Re: Oil pump suction? Do you know what kind of oil was used in this engine?

Re: Oil pump suction? The swami sez "Non-detergent".:D

Re: Oil pump suction? The swami knows his sludge.

Re: Oil pump suction? Have no idea it was in the engine when I got it and I never ran the engine.
